Abstract

Science education, from a scientific culture viewpoint, is a goal of contemporary societies. An in-depth understanding of how science teaching guidelines have evolved in recent decades as well as of the authors, projects, specific journals, congresses and seminars that have stood out in this research field will allow us to understand how the STS|STSE movement emerged and grew stronger, having been disseminated in countries of nearly every continent. This paper aims at reflecting upon how STS|STSE thinking within the scope of science education has had an impact in curricular orientations and programs, strategies and didactic resources, in order to achieve a more cultured citizenship from a scientific point of view. It is argued that innovation in education and in educational policies will always depend on its own research.
