Autoconceito e resiliência no rendimento escolar

Abstract

Self-concept has great relevance in social, cognitive and academic areas of the development of an adolescent since it is defined as a construct capable of understanding the person's view of himself, foreseeing social interaction, behavioral pattern and the adaptation of students to school. Resilience is defined as the individual's ability to face adversity positively and perceive it as an opportunity for learning and growth. This investigation intends to analyze the relationship of self-concept and resilience constructs with school performance in children of the second cycle, considering the effect that the sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, school year, number of failures, socioeconomic level and parents' education present. Twenty individuals were interviewed (8 male and 12 female) about their levels of self concept and resilience. The tests used were the Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale reduced version (EAA-VR30) and Escala de Avaliação do Eu Resiliente and a questionnaire for collecting sociodemographic data. The results found allowed us to find factors influencing self-concept and resilience. However, not all the results found were statistically significant. Further investigations are needed with a larger and more representative sample.
