Soldadura laser termoplástico-metal

Abstract

Based on technological advances made in laser welding, along with the search for more economical and sustainable processes of joining different materials, new connection methods have been developed. These methods are alternatives to more conventional procedures such as creating joints with adhesives or using components in the bonding process, like screws or rivets. In this work the Nd: YAG laser welding parameters between an aluminium alloy EN AW 6082-T6 and two thermoplastics, a polyamide 6 and a polyamide 66 with 30% glass fiber reinforcement, were optimized. This study was developed by joining 2 mm thick aluminium specimens and 3 mm thick thermoplastic specimens placed in overlap geometry, with the beam focus placed on the aluminium surface. To allow a strong bond, specific structures were produced in the aluminium that were filled with fused polyamide during the welding process and create a solid and permanent bond after solidification. After defining the parameters, the specimens were tested using tensile shear tests, which resulted in shear strengths above 50% of the thermoplastics used.
