The myth of Helen of Troy, based upon scattered references found in multiple classical authors, has given proof of an enduring creative appeal that has stood the test of time. In O Rancor, Hélia Correia retextualises the myth of the Spartan queen, taking into account the multifarious images that have been handed down by the classical tradition, but depicting her under a profoundly human light. In this dissertation, after pointing out the recurrent elements in Helen’s classical portraits, we have attempted to analyse the ways in which these are revisited in Hélia Correia’s play.
