Abstract

Foram administradas a Escala de Satisfação com as Informações prestadas a Doentes Oncológicas Jovens (ESIDOJ), desenvolvida para o efeito, a Escala de Ansiedade e Depressão Hospitalar (EADH) e o European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core30 (QLQ-C30). A escala desenvolvida apresentou boas propriedades psicométicas.

Oncologic disease is a chronic disease with impact on several areas of the individual's life. Its emergence at a young age creates additional challenges that require the fulfillment of specific information needs. This study aimed to (i) develop and study the psychometric properties of an instrument to assess the unfulfilled information needs of young oncology patients; (ii) to examine the relationship between the satisfaction of information needs and the anxiety, depression and quality of life of young survivors of breast and gynecological cancer; (iii) characterize the patient assessment regarding the received information and their preferences in receiving information. This study included 39 women diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancer between the ages of 18 and 40. The Satisfaction with the Information Given to Young Oncologic Patients Scale (ESIDOJ), developed for this purpose, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (EADH) and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core30 (QLQ-C30). The developed scale presented good psychometric properties. From the exploratory factorial analysis, only one factor emerged, providing an overall index of satisfaction with the information provided. However, no significant associations were found between satisfaction with the information provided and the psychosocial aspects evaluated. It was also found that survivors preferred that information was transmitted face-to-face by health care providers, in the consultation, at the time of diagnosis or phased throughout the treatment process. In spite of the existing limitations, a positive balance of the study is made, not only by contributing to the advance of the knowledge in the area, but also by the satisfactory results obtained regarding the new developed scale. Research of this type is essential because it is an area that deserves the attention of science in order to contribute to a continuous improvement of the health care services.
