ABSTRACT: The purpose of the present work is to study optical signal-to-noise ratio and chromatic dispersion monitoring techniques. In this study, two configurations in optical signal monitoring were considered: optical semiconductor amplifier, with and without auxiliary pump, in order to evaluate the effects of self and cross-phase modulation in the device. To support the study, simulation work and laboratorial experiments at 40 Gb/s bit rate were performed. A set of directives for the filter design was obtained and used in the referred techniques.
