Abstract

This Internship report was carried out within the A2 Supervised Pedagogical Practice in conjunction with the subject of Educational Intervention Seminar, with a 2nd grade class of Elementary School. The study presented here is part of the theme of interaction and had as study objective the "interaction teacher-student and student’s in the classroom in the first grades of Elementary School". By interaction, in this particular context, it should be understood as verbal and non-verbal communication between two or more participants in the classroom, having or not a direct relation to what is being taught. This study aims at observing and reflecting on the types of interactions present in the classroom between students, as well as the teacher-student interaction, in the subjects of Portuguese and Mathematics. Furthermore, the interactions in both these areas were investigated. This study is part of a descriptive qualitative methodology and presents case study characteristics. The tools for data collection focused on observations, video recordings of interactions between students and student-teacher and the researcher's field notes. The results obtained indicate that there is more interaction in the subject of Portuguese than in Mathematics, be it between students or teacher-student. In the interaction between teacher-student, the cognitive and emotional/social have very similar values; whereas, in the student’s interaction there are more interactions on an emotional and social level and less on a cognitive value, registering a very marked difference between them. It is important for the teacher to promote interaction in all curricular areas on a cognitive, emotional and social level, as this can bring benefits to all students and the teacher, because it creates a healthy, comfortable environment, conducive to learning and to student’s development. i
