Abstract

ABSTRACT: The competitiveness and instability of markets, resulting of the progressive globalization of world economy, are factors that affect critically the performance of companies. To survive or dominate these markets, the companies have to overcome the challenge of modernization. This challenge is an extremely complex process, which involves the entire company as a whole, and presupposes the optimization of productive infrastructures. We should invest in innovation, in elimination of waste and in the alteration of traditional methods of management, in the productivity level and also in the quality level. The best way to respond to these needs is through the implementation of the Lean production philosophy in the entire organization. This work is the outcome of a project that took place at BOSCH Termotecnologia company in Aveiro, and consisted in a practical application of lean production philosophy through the implementation of Pull Systems. The utilization of these systems in production maximizes the operations efficiency that creates value in the final products. This project focuses on a restructuration of a specific area, and comprehends the reformulation of the supply in a final cell and the optimization of a process that creates the set of accessories. The implementation of Pull in this two processes originate the minimization or elimination of problems, improving significantly the work conditions, the standardization and the automation of the operations, in coherency with the majority of the existing processes that already function with this system.
