Caracterização de cinzas volantes produzidas durante a combustão de biomassa em leito fluidizado

Abstract

A utilização de recursos energéticos renováveis tem aumentado ao longo dos anos, na perspetiva de minimizar efeitos nefastos no ambiente e na saúde humana. Neste contexto, a combustão de biomassa tem sido uma das formas mais utilizadas para produção e energia térmica e elétrica. No entanto, esta tecnologia de conversão energética pode apresentar alguns inconvenientes, sobretudo relacionados com a emissão de material particulado. Neste trabalho foram queimados 4 tipos de biomassa, previamente tratadas, num leito fluidizado à escala piloto: o eucalipto, o pinheiro, a acácia e uma mistura de casca de pinhão e pinheiro. Num primeiro ensaio foram recolhidas amostras para caracterizar a granulometria das partículas, verificando-se uma predominância das PM2,5, tendo sido escolhidas as partículas deste tamanho como objeto de estudo. Foram utilizados dois equipamentos de despoeiramento em série: um ciclone e um filtro de mangas. O primeiro permitiu eficiências de remoção de 1,4% - 17,4% (em massa), enquanto que no segundo foi possível alcançar eficiências de remoção na gama 93,0% - 97,0% (em massa). Os elementos inorgânicos constituíram a fração maioritária das partículas emitidas, representando 19,0% a 55,1% da massa de PM2,5. O Ca, o K e o S foram os elementos maioritários com maior representatividade. Entre os elementos minoritários, destacaram-se o Zn, o Cd, o Cr e o Mn. O carbono elementar, a matéria orgânica e os carbonatos contribuíram para frações mássicas nas gamas 0,18% - 42,9%, 0,65% - 22,7% e 0,05% - 1,2%, respetivamente.

The production of energy using renewable energies has increased over the years, in order to avoid or minimize the adverse effects to the environment and human health. Biomass combustion has been one of the most costeffective methods for energy production. However, this energetic conversion technique may present some drawbacks, mainly related to particulate matter emissions. In this work, 4 types of previously treated biomass were burned in a fluidised bed: eucalyptus, pine, acacia and a mixture of pine nut shells and pine. In an initial trial, samples were collected for the characterization of the grain size of particles, having concluded that there was a predominance of PM2.5, thus, this particle size was chosen for the subsequent studies. Two dust removal systems were used in series: a cyclone and a bag filter. The first allowed removal rates of only 1,41% - 17,4%, whereas the second one achieved efficiencies of 93,0% - 97,0%. The inorganic elements constituted the majority of the emitted particles, representing 19,0% to 55,1% of the mass of PM2.5. Ca, K and S were the predominant elements with the highest representation. Within the minority elements, Zn, Cd, Cr, and Mn are emphasised. Elemental carbon, organic matter and carbonates contributed to mass fractions in the ranges 0,18% - 42,9%, 0,65% - 22,7% and 0,05% - 1,2%, respectively.
