Abstract

Given the ever increasing energy consumption and the need for reducing polluting emissions to the atmosphere, the present work aims to propose a clean energy production system from sea wave energy. This dissertation's goal is to create an alternative system for converting the kinetic energy from sea waves into electric energy based on the SEAREV project. At first, an analysis of the existing conversion systems was made in order to verify how the kinetic energy from sea waves is currently harvested. A multiplying gear system was dimensioned and modeled, incorporating variable transmission ratios, and being capable of dynamically adapting to adverse oceanic conditions, thus trying to maximize the amount of energy harvested from the sea waves. Finally, finite element analysis was conducted for components which, in foresight, can compromise proper functioning of the whole project.
