Abstract

A presente dissertação pretende efetuar uma análise numérica em situação de risco sísmico da igreja de Santa Maria Madalena (situada na ilha do Pico, Arquipélago dos Açores), caracterizando pontos de fragilidade e comparando estes com os danos provocados pelo sismo de 9 de Julho de 1998, através da análise tensorial dos principais elementos estruturais da igreja (fachada principal; paredes exteriores da nave central; arcos longitudinais e torres sineiras). Esta análise é realizada através do estudo de quatro modelos numéricos da igreja de Santa Maria Madalena. Estes modelos pretendem distinguir diferentes situações de reforço sísmico através da ligação da cobertura da igreja às paredes estruturais e do aumento da rigidez e capacidade de resistência das tensões de tração na alvenaria de pedra das paredes da igreja. Como forma de complemento ao estudo tensorial realiza-se uma análise a nível dos deslocamentos nodais dos elementos descritos interligando-a com a aceleração sísmica envolvente nos elementos da igreja em causa.

The dissertation makes a numerical analysis on seismic risk of the church of St. Mary Magdalene (located on the island of Pico, Azores), featuring weak points and comparing these with the damage caused by the earthquake of July 9, 1998, through a tensor analysis of the major structural elements of the church (the main facade, the exterior walls of the central nave, longitudinal arches and bell towers). This tensor analysis is carried out through the study of four numerical models of the church of St. Mary Magdalene. These models intend to distinguish different situations seismic reinforcement: link to the cover of the church walls, increasing rigidity and resilience of tensile stresses in masonry stone walls of the church. In order to complement the tensor analysis performs an analysis of the nodal displacements at the elements already described and a brief description of these is seismic acceleration on the structure encircling the church concerned.
