Abstract

The presented project arises to respond to the need for waste reduction and quality improvement in a textile company that produces yarns, ropes, nets and cable made from synthetic and natural raw materials. The focus covers the synthethic yarn production, more precisely baler twine. The yarn manufacturing process is scientifically underexplored, so this work tries to increase the existing knowledge in this production process by exploiting the existing literature and specifically the study of extrusion and twisting processes. Initially, the objective is to study one of the company’s problems, the process variability and the effects generated in the final product’s quality. In the next stage, using well-known methods of continuous improvement like PDCA and the 7 Basic Tools of Quality, the author tries to create ways to reduce waste in the production process. After identifying the main causes for the occurrence of defects, it was able to define and implement an action plan. The objectives were achieved, the tools described in this project led to benefic results to the company.
