Investimentos privados em educação: o caso dos cursinhos comerciais

Abstract

The use of educational support by students outside of school is increasingly taking place in businesses – of school reinforcement (reforço escolar in Brazil), of private tutoring (explicações in Portugal) – within the framework of an educational market also increasingly more competitive. Studying this kind of offer, namely in what concerns commercial preparatory courses (cursinhos in Brazil) in the city of Brasília is the main objective of this work. To study this issue directors of commercial preparatory courses where interviewed, in order to get to know their opinion about this phenomenon, which nowadays is experiencing a significant increase in the numbers of businesses that offer this service; and students that attend this type of centers were questioned about the motives that led them to make use of this activity of outside of school support. The empirical research of this work consisted in the gathering and documental analysis of bibliography and in internet research of official websites of preparatory courses operating in the city of Brasília; in interviews to directors of commercial preparatory courses; and on a questionnaire distributed to students that attend those centers. The results obtained with this research point out to: a growing expansion of this kind of business; a positive perception, by students and by directors, of the results obtained in school; critiques to formal schooling; the importance given to the preparation for exams/work placement tests and the centrality of private tutoring in Mathematics.

O recurso por parte dos alunos a apoio educativo fora da escola surge cada vez mais a cargo de empresas – de reforço escolar (Brasil), de explicações (Portugal) – no quadro de um mercado educacional cada vez mais competitivo. Estudar este tipo de oferta nomeadamente ao que aos cursinhos comerciais na cidade de Brasília diz respeito é o objetivo principal deste trabalho. Para estudar esta temática foi decidido entrevistar diretores de cursinhos comerciais para melhor conhecer a sua opinião sobre este fenómeno que conhece nos dias de hoje um significativo aumento no crescimento da oferta empresarial; e inquirir os alunos que frequentam este tipo de centros para perceber os motivos que os levam a recorrer a esta atividade de apoio extraescolar. A investigação empírica deste trabalho consistiu: na recolha e análise documental de obras bibliográficas de referência e na pesquisa através da Internet de páginas oficiais de cursinhos a operar na cidade de Brasília; nas entrevistas aos diretores dos cursinhos comerciais; e na aplicação de um inquérito por questionário aos alunos que frequentam esses centros. Os resultados obtidos com esta investigação apontam para: uma crescente expansão deste tipo de negócio; uma perceção positiva de retorno em termos de resultados escolares sob a perspetiva quer de alunos quer de diretores; a inferência de críticas à escola formal; a visível importância da preparação para os exames/concursos e a centralidade das explicações na disciplina de Matemática.
