Abstract

Decree-Law no. 75/2008 amended the legal autonomy, administration and management of public schools Portuguese, and introduced a person body - the director - primarily responsible for the administrative, financial and pedagogical. Given the increasing importance of the post of director as maximum leader of the educational organization has emerged as one of the guiding questions of this study to know which teachers have perceptions director. The methodology was aqualitativa through case study in elementary school, with the completion of an interview with the director and a questionnaire to teachers. We have chosen to organize the data analysis following dimensions - school climate, school leadership and management, curriculum development, people management, administration and financial management, student management, relationship with parents and the community, problem solving and decision making. After analyzing the results, it was possible to identify a set of behaviors that show the importance of the role of leader in the management and leadership of the Portuguese public schools, and, in general, harmony between the views of the director and the teachers' perceptions.
