Abstract

The principal objective of this Project was redesigning the actual plant of production of low density polyethylene (LDPE) that is located on Tarragona. The implementation of this new plant involved a substantial improvement on production capacity by an increase in conversion of Ethylene in Polyethylene. For this increase there is a change of initiator from oxygen to organic peroxides. The actual conversion is 20.5% and for the process with organic peroxides is in the range of 25 at 35%, but this project focused in a minimum value of 26.9%. To guarantee the correct operation and the security of the plant was necessary the calculation and sizing of new facilities to preparation of initiator and dissolvent treatment used in this preparation. The parameters of study are: Flow rates, temperatures and pressures of ethylene, propylene (raw materials) and initiator. In another point was made an economic evaluation and environmental study of the new plant, where was verified his economic viability and worst environmental impact when compared with the actual plant.
