A utilização de materiais poliméricos nas mais diversas aplicações está muito em voga atualmente, pelo que é necessário compreender melhor o comportamento tribológico destes materiais. Sendo o UHMWPE um polietileno com uma cresce importância, nomeadamente na engenharia e na medicina, realizou-se um estudo ao comportamento tribológico deste material, assim como também de outro polietileno, o HMWPE. Numa primeira fase, realizou-se um estudo comparativo do comportamento ao atrito e desgaste do UHMWPE e do HMWPE com outros polímeros (PET, PEEK, POM-C, PVC e PA66). Numa segunda fase estudou-se a influência da pressão de contacto no comportamento tribológico dos polietilenos UHMWPE e HMWPE, seguida de uma terceira fase onde se estudou a influência da velocidade de deslizamento. Na última fase realizou-se um estudo comparativo entre o comportamento tribológico do UHMWPE e do HMWPE em ensaios a seco e ensaios em meio aquoso.
The use of polymeric materials in various applications are very much in vogue at present day, whereby it is necessary understand the tribological behavior of these materials. As UHMWPE, a polyethylene with a growing importance, particularly in engineering and medicine, was carried out a study to the tribological behavior of this material, as well as other polyethylene, HMWPE. Initially, we carried out a comparative study of friction and wear behavior of UHMWPE and HMWPE with other polymers (PET, PEEK, POM-C, PVC and PA66). A second step was studied the influence of pressure of contact in the tribological behavior of polyethylene’s, HMWPE and UHMWPE, followed by a third stage where are studied the influence of the sliding velocity. In the last phase we carried out a comparative study of the tribological behavior of UHMWPE and HMWPE in dry trials and tests in aqueous media.
