¿Conoce usted cuánta agua consume una ternera Jersey?

Abstract

El agua, después del oxígeno, es el nutriente más importante para mantener la vida y el desempeño de las terneras. Actúa como solvente en muchos sistemas biológicos diferentes. El alimento que es consumido, se mezcla con el agua y esto permite a las secreciones digestivas, que son solubles en ella, transformar el alimento en productos que pueden ser absorbidos y utilizados por el animal. Se emplea como un medio para transportar materiales en el cuerpo, a través de la sangre u otros fluidos corporales hacia el tejido donde se necesite. También tiene que ver con el transporte de desechos que deben ser eliminados a través de la orina o del tracto digestivo. En otro sentido, absorbe una gran cantidad de calor cuando se evapora, lo que permite al animal utilizarla para enfriar el cuerpo y regular la presión osmótica y contribuye con el mantenimiento apropiado del balance de iones y fluidos en el cuerpo.
