Abstract

ABSTRACT: In accordance with its Organic Statute (1990), the University of Costa Rica must contribute to transforming society so that true social justice, comprehensive development, full freedom, and total independence of the Costa Rican people prevail, for which reason the Institution you should constantly review your resumes. The IIMEC carried out a survey in 1991 to identify the problems that affect curricular planning in higher education and that brings to light various problems: curricular planning is rigid, for many students the degree is longer than established in the study plan (partly due to the excessive number of corequisite and requirement courses), the professional joins the workforce late, the student's possibilities of continuing graduate studies are limited (due to family and economic obligations), the bibliography of courses is outdated or inaccessible. The research arises, then, as a need to outline the guidelines to adapt curricular planning, within which the determination of professional profiles is of vital importance. Through a participatory work methodology, the study aims to develop the professional academic profile in three academic units (Law, Nursing and Collective Communication Sciences, emphasis on journalism) and to prepare a methodological guide to prepare these profiles at the UCR. The selected careers have the characteristic of being considered highly competitive in the labor market. University authorities, teachers, students, profesional services , representatives of employers, professional associations and professional associations participated in the research. The objectives of the investigation were fully met.
