Los efectos de los inversionistas activistas sobre el rendimiento operativo de empresas en países con renta media baja

Abstract

Esta investigación examina las recientes intervenciones de activismo de los fondos de cobertura y otros inversionistas sobre empresas de países con un ingreso per cápita anual entre $5 mil y $20 mil dólares aproximadamente. Denes et al. (2017) recopilan más de 20 investigaciones que han encontrado un aumento del rendimiento operativo (i.e. ROA y EBITDA) de las empresas de regiones desarrolladas (e.g. Estados Unidos y Europa) luego de la intervención de un inversionista activista. Como propuesta innovadora, esta investigación estima este mismo efecto pero en países de renta media-baja, en los cuales, el activismo de los inversionistas ha aumentado significativamente en los últimos años. Por medio de un modelo de panel con efectos fijos, se estudia el efecto de los inversionistas sobre el flujo de caja de las empresas intervenidas y se comprueba la hipótesis de que las empresas mejoran su rendimiento operativo (específicamente el EBITDA) una vez que son intervenidas por inversionistas activistas.
