Abstract

Esta gramática de la lengua bribri, la primera que se publica de esta lengua chibcha, consta de las siguientes partes y capítulos: I parte: capítulo 1: introducción general. capítulo 2: fonología - II parte: clases de palabras: introducción. capítulo 3: sustantivos. capítulo 4: verbos. capítulo 5: modificadores. capítulo 6: ideófonos e interjecciones. capítulo 7: clases menores - III parte: sintaxis: introducción. capítulo 8: frases. capítulo 9: oraciones - IV parte: discurso: introducción. capítulo 10: tipos de discursos y textos - anexo 1: oposiciones fonológicas y realización de los fonemas - anexo 2: lista de verbos - bibliografía

Existen en la actualidad ocho grupos indígenas en Costa Rica: los bribris y los cabécares habitan a ambos lados de la cordillera de Talamanca, en las provincias de Limón y Puntarenas; los borucas, los térrabas y los guaymíes viven en la zona sur de la provincia de Puntarenas; los malecu se encuentran en la región de San Carlos, en el norte de Alajuela; encontramos a los huetares en las comunidades de Zapatón y Quitirrisí, en la provincia de San José, y a los chorotegas en Matambú, provincia de Guanacaste.
