Abstract

Objective: To explore the scientific evidence available on the approach from the nursing process to women who had experienced postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) for the care improvement. Method: An integrative literature review was carried out with a descriptive and retrospective scope. It was based specifically on the parameters established by Whittemore and Knafl. Different relevant bibliographic databases such as Google Scholar, EBSCO, Medline, BIRTH, Proquest, American Journal of Medicine, Embase, Science Direct, Ovid, Dialnet, Trip, Cochrane, SCOPUS, Lilacs and Pubmed were reviewed. Results: The analysis sample consisted of 15 publications indexed in 5 databases, where it was found for the first time: SCOPUS, OVID, Lilacs, Pubmed and Google Scholar. The publication period included was from 2013 to 2018. There was a predominance of studies carried out in the American Continent. It is evident that this scientific research is in accordance with the field of gynecology-obstetrics. Conclusions: According to nursing diagnoses, women who had suffered from a PPH exhibit traumatic experiences that manifested weakness, fear, pain and risk of shock. Moreover, it is indicated the need to incorporate in the nursing process care focused on information requirements towards women and their partners. In relation to the nursing interventions, the active management of labour, as well as the activation of the red code, is the procedure managed by obstetric nursing. At the same time, it provides comprehensive attention taking into account the care factor of promoting interpersonal teaching-learning process. Regarding nursing evaluations, obstetricians assess the risk of PPH applying active management protocols. These evaluations are led to protocols that work. Meanwhile, delayed, unfinished or omitted nursing care when the census and the severity of the patient exceed the nursing staff influences in the potential results and negative effects regarding the satisfaction, the ability to successfully breastfeed and the overall patient experience.
