En este artículo se determinan los principales resultados a nivel social y ambiental derivados del desarrollo turístico en las costas guanacastecas, a través del análisis de información recopilada mediante entrevistas aplicadas a activistas comunales de las zonas de mayor desarrollo turístico de Guanacaste, al igual que con diversos datos teóricos, científicos y estadísticos. Este desarrollo turístico es responsable de la apropiación intensiva de espacios naturales y la sobreexplotacion de los acuíferos que abastecen a las comunidades costeras, provocando el surgimiento de luchas de vecinos contra empresarios y políticos por controlar el acceso a los bienes y servicios ambientales que se consideran necesarios para asegurar la subsistencia.
This article identifies the main social and environmental results derived from tourism development in Guanacaste’s coasts, through the analysis of theoretical, scientific and statistical data, as well as information collected through interviews with local activists. It is considered that tourism development is guilty of intensive appropriation of nature and overexploitation of the aquifers that supply local communities, as well, the emergence of social movements against developers and government, to control access to environmental resources considered basics to subsistence
