CONFLICTOS FRONTERIZOS Y ANTIIMPERIALISMO EN LAS REPÚBLICAS BANANERAS CENTROAMERICANAS: EL CASO DE HONDURAS

Abstract

En sociedades cuya dinámica social está presente la tensión existente entre la necesidad de una política de apertura a la inversión extranjera y la defensa de los intereses nacionales, como ocurre en aquellas economías atravesadas por grandes inversiones de capital transnacional, las expresiones nacionalistas producidas con ocasión de conflictos fronterizos adquieren una dimensión especial al adquirir matices antiimperialistas. En este contexto, el antiimperialismo constituye una variable cuya presencia es constante, pero su intensidad varía de forma coyuntural. En situaciones de conflicto fronterizo, si bien la oposición al capital extranjero se expresa con fuerza, ésta es mayor frente a los vecinos centroamericanos. En este artículo, se analiza la atención de la prensa hondureña al igual que las reacciones de los diversos sectores sociales y políticos durante el conflicto fronterizo producido entre este país y Guatemala, ocurrido entre los años de 1927 y 1928. Lo anterior, con el fin de medir el nivel de tensión generado por el conflicto y dimensionar su alcance a nivel nacional.
