LA SOLTERÍA EN MUJERES DE MEDIANA EDAD

Abstract

Este artículo resume los resultados de una investigación cualitativa sobre las experiencias, expectativas y concepciones sobre la soltería sostenida por un grupo de mujeres, amas de casa y asalariadas, en la mediana edad. En la construcción del propio sentido de vida como mujeres solteras, se debaten tratando de integrar las contradicciones vividas en su condición como tales. Lidian entre ejercer la libertad versus la soledad experimentada por no tener un compañero. Apelan, por un lado, a la designación divina al mismo tiempo que están en espera del hombre ideal para casarse. Asumen la soltería como una circunstancia y las demandas de sus familias en cuanto al cuido de las figuras progenitoras y a otros miembros de sus familias. Finalmente, deben renunciar a tener sus propios hijos y asumir el maternazgo con la descendencia de sus hermanas y hermanos.
