EL CUATERNARIO EN COSTA RICA. PROPOSICIÓN CRONOLÓGICA

Abstract

Las observaciones de terreno acompañadas por dataciones radiométricas K/Ar y C 14 han permitido al autor idear una secuencia cronológica de los principales eventos naturales que han modelado poco a poco el relieve de Costa Rica. Los niveles fluviales en Costa Rica, se asocian con las crisis climáticas cuaternarias mundiales y que se repercutieron en América Central bajo la forma de periodos alternados pluviales (fases biostásicas) e interpluviales (fases rexistásicas). En las altas cimas (Chirripó 3.819 m,) existe la evidencia de la última glaciación (Würm) mientras que en los litorales existen trazas de las dos últimas transgresiones marinas (Eemiense y Flandense), alteradas por una neotectónica positiva.
