Abstract

Colombia es un centro de gran interés para el estudio de las avispas sociales ya que alberga alrededor del 33 % de las especies. Paradójica mente, los trabajos publicados son escasos y aún menores las colecciones locales representativas. Dentro de estos trabajos se encuentran: West Eberhard (1975) quien hizo un estudio para el Valle del Cauca sin registros nuevos; Richards (1978) con una lista de 159 especies y subespecies para el país; V élez (1989) quien revisó la región norte de las cordilleras central y occidental y Cubillos (1991) quien estudió el g énero Polybia, encontrando una especie más
