Los retos de las sociedades multiculturales: interculturalismo y pluralismo.

Abstract

Se discuten algunos de los retos que enfrentan las actuales sociedades multiculturales, especialmente en Latinoamérica, frente a la globalización y a la llamada ?sociedad del conocimiento?. Se sostiene que para ampliar las capacidades y los funcionamientos de las personas (en el sentido de Amartya Sen) que pertenecen a grupos que han sido excluidos del conocimiento y sus beneficios, y así encaminarse hacia sociedades menos injustas, deben promoverse políticas para que los miembros de esos grupos: (1) participen activamente en los procesos de toma de decisiones relativos al control y a la explotación de los recursos naturales de los territorios donde viven, así como sobre la distribución de los beneficios de dicha explotación; (2) puedan generar conocimientos y tecnologías, e incorporar en sus prácticas sociales conocimiento científico y tecnológico; y (3) puedan participar en prácticas y en redes sociales de innovación (conceptos que se elucidan en el trabajo), donde tan importante es el aprovechamiento de conocimientos científico-tecnológicos, como de los conocimientos locales y tradicionales.
