La consanguinidad en las provincias centrales de Costa Rica

Abstract

Se efectuó un estudio de la consanguinidad en las cuatro provincias centrales de Costa Rica (Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia y San José), mediante el método genealógico, que incluyo 7822 matrimonios, en seis periodos establecidos entre 1860 y 1969. El coeficiente medio de endocruzamiento (a) muestra una tendencia general a la disminución temporal, aunque en algunas regiones especificas se mantiene relativamente alto. Los valores alas altos se encuentran en Heredia y San José. Existe una mayor frecuencia de uniones consanguíneas de primos hermanos y segundos. El porcentaje de endogamia es alto pero en general no estar correlacionado positivamente con el valor de a, lo que sugiere emigraciones moderadas y más uniones entre parejas con igual origen, pero diferente tipo de unión consanguínea. Esta estructura poblacional puede favorecer un aumento de portadores de genes con origen común. Se discute las implicaciones genéticas de este resultados para explicar el perfil de salad actual de Costa Rica. que incluye una alta frecuencia de enfermedades hereditarias, y se plantea la necesidad de efectuar et consejo genético en las familias y no en la población.
