Abstract

Las anomalías congénitas son la primera causa de mortalidad y morbilidad infantil en los países desarrollados, constituyendo el 20% de las muertes que ocurren en el primer año tras el nacimiento. Se define anomalía congénita como cualquier anomalía morfológica, estructural, funcional o molecular, presente al nacimiento. Las anomalías congénitas cumplen todos los requisitos para ser patologías susceptibles de cribado y la instauración de un programa prenatal de cribado universal basado en la asociación de un cribado de malformaciones estructurales fetales ha demostrado la reducción de la incidencia de las anomalías congénitas al nacimiento.
