Abstract

Starting with Tangier as a bridge between both shores, the work delves into this city to trace the Mediterranean essence of Tangier literature through an analysis of Spanish and Moroccan literary discourses about this crossroads city. The hybrid identity that characterizes the city and its literary reflection will also be studied from a broader perspective, moving beyond the borders of Tangier's hinterland to study the work of Hispanist Muhammed Ibn Azzuz Hakim, on the one hand, and Spanish writer Víctor Ruiz Albéniz, on the other. The two provide a complete view of the complex reality that has been and continues to be northern Morocco. Furthermore, the work features the contribution of Extremaduran poet Álvaro Valverde, who tells us about his perspective on the Tangier he knew through his family's memories, first, and after his first visit years later. These very different realities informed his poetry collection Más allá, Tánger (Beyond, Tangier).
