The commentary of El Brocense to the Eclogue IV is a part of a set in which the humanist from Caceres makes an analysis of the Virgilian “Bucolica”. The “Bucolica” forms part of a succession of commentaries that Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas made to different classic and contemporary authors using the technical of the “scholium”. The Eclogue IV, that el Brocense analyses with an allegorical vision, was composed at 40 a.C. The interpretations about it have been many and very different, but from all of them those which are directed to disembowel the identity of the miraculous boy who appears in the poem are notorious. El Brocense thinks that the boy should be the waited son of August and Livia. The didactic intention is the principal characteristic of these Brocense's “scholia”, which are carriers of a great sagacity as a consequence of the great culture of the commentarist.
