Abstract

El progreso mundial ha coincidido con una substancial variabilidad a lo largo de los países. Esto sugiere que las fuerzas globales han hecho el progreso más viable para los países a cualquier nivel de desarrollo, pero los países difieren en como toman ventaja de las oportunidades.(Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo – PNUD, Informe Desarrollo Humano 2010)Los rápidos cambios tecnológicos, la globalización de los mercados y las economías, han llevado a cambios en las estructuras de producción y transformación en los aparatos productivos de los países, el medio ambiente natural y social con afectaciones en el modo de vida y exacerbación de la pobreza en todo el mundo. La explosión demográfica conlleva al aumento de la producción de bienes y servicios y del consumo de materias primas y recursos naturales, los cuales no son renovados en la misma relación, produciéndose un deterioro e impacto negativo en el ecosistema natural y una tendencia a la reducción de los mismos, en un futuro cercano. La explosión demográfica, demanda una mayor cantidad de alimentos que puede no suplirse, dada la disminución de las áreas cultivables, afectando principalmente a las poblaciones pobres, debido a su bajos ingresos y el aumento de los precios de productos de la canasta familiar de primera necesidad.
