Abstract

The following work comes to light as a research proposal to analyse the feasibility of the construction of a gravity retaining wall with the implementation of used tires in the municipality of Girardot, in the Department of Cundinamarca in Colombia. With this research we seek to find proper ways of utilizing worn tires which lifespans have completed. The research is based on a descriptive, documentary-like methodology developing a mixed method with a focus in quality and quantity and employing a revision of the literature that was relevant for the research, such as: retaining walls, types of retaining walls, gravity retaining walls, utilization of worn tires, among others. With the analysis of the obtained results it can be indicated that the construction of gravity retaining walls with the utilization of worn tires is a feasible proposal. It also has a low cost compared to other materials used for the construction of gravity retaining walls. To conclude, with the utilization of this solid residue we are also helping take care of the environment.
