El sector turismo en Colombia está creciendo gracias a nuevas e innovadoras iniciativas de gobierno como lo han sido Colombia es Pasión que es una marca país campaña que busca incrementar el turismo en Colombia y mejorar la imagen que tienen en el exterior de Colombia. La importancia del turismo para un país es muy grande debido a que esto no solo es un generador de ingresos y un renglón de la economía que puede aumentar el PIB y el empleo también es una manera de atraer inversión extranjera al país. En el país aunque en la actualidad este sector turismo salud no es tan significativo en la economía se espera que con este proyecto que se tiene en conjunto se pueda llegar a ser en el 2032 reconocido como uno de los líderes mundiales del turismo salud generando ingresos superiores a los 6.000 millones de dólares. Para esto se han desarrollado estrategias y se ha construido un plan en torno a 20 iniciativas 4 de ellas relacionadas con el recurso humano para incrementar la cantidad de profesionales en algunas áreas de la salud y generar en las personas de esta rama innovación, investigación y creatividad.
