Abstract

The waste water treatment plant – WWTP, are systems designed with the purpose of reducing the pollutant load of domestic and industrial waste water, and one of the byproducts generated during the process are the sludge of the primary and secondary treatment, which require stabilization prior to final disposal. The WWTP Rio Frio use the composting as a process of sludge stabilization, and in the future will use screw press type dehydrator followed by heat drying, in order to improve the quality of biosolids. The decree 1287 of July 10th 2014, establishes the criteria for the use of biosolids resulting from treatment of municipal wastewater, which could lead, if is required, that some companies modify some of their processes, in order to comply with the new regulations.
