Abstract

Motavita, Boyacá, es uno de los municipios de Colombia que sufre de escasez de agua. El presente estudio identificó las zonas de recarga hídrica en esta área de estudio con el fin de conocer la ubicación geográfica de dichas zonas y que hagan parte de la solución asegurando la disponibilidad de agua y calidad del recurso hídrico al ser utilizadas como fuentes de agua potable en el municipio. La identificación de estas áreas se logró mediante análisis espacial aplicando la metodología de Matus (2007), evaluando las siguientes variables: pendiente y microrelieve, tipo de suelo, tipo de roca, cobertura vegetal y uso del suelo, lo cual permitió generar el mapa de posibilidades de recarga de cada variable y la zonificación final en cinco categorías de recarga: Muy alta, alta, moderada, baja y muy baja. Se identificó una pequeña área de recarga muy alta y alta en el territorio donde se facilita la infiltración del agua en el suelo, la mayor área del municipio presenta posibilidad de recarga moderada. Finalmente, se expone la importancia de la conservación y protección de estas zonas para aumentar el abastecimiento de agua y recargar los acuíferos subterráneos y la alimentación de los ríos y cuerpos de agua de la zona.

Motavita, Boyacá, is one of the municipalities in Colombia that suffers from water scarcity. This study identified the water recharge areas in this study area in order to know the geographic location of these areas and that they are part of the solution to ensure the availability of water and quality of water resources to be used as sources of drinking water in the municipality. The identification of these areas was achieved through spatial analysis applying the Matus (2007) methodology, evaluating the following variables: slope and micro-relief, soil type, rock type, vegetation cover and land use, which allowed generating the map of recharge possibilities for each variable and the final zoning in five recharge categories: Very high, high, moderate, low and very low. A small area of very high and high recharge was identified in the territory where water infiltration into the soil is facilitated; the largest area of the municipality has moderate recharge possibilities. Finally, the importance of conserving and protecting these areas to increase the water supply and recharge the subway aquifers and feed the rivers and water bodies in the area is discussed.
