Abstract

Spatial accessibility depends on geographical and infrastructural conditions in general, which is why it is more challenging in rural areas. One sector that focuses on accessibility, also known as geographic accessibility, is the health sector, given its relevance and public interest. This entails challenges regarding the access routes to healthcare facilities, influencing both health awareness and the timely response to emergencies. This article explores this issue, focusing on the rural areas of the Departments of Putumayo and Caquetá. These areas, given their geographical conditions and social and historical contexts, pose challenges in addressing the topic. The analysis includes patterns of accessibility, population distribution, and the routes available for accessing healthcare services, which often involve long distances, translating into investments in time and costs.
