In an international environment where competition for power is crucial, TikTok is proposed as a tool for Colombia to enhance its attractiveness and global influence. Through a mixed-method case study, the characteristics of TikTok as a soft power tool and best practices for content development were identified. Additionally, the official account of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was analyzed to determine whether it fulfills state functions online or is used as an influence tool. By comparing this account’s metrics with Rival-IQ reports from 2022 and 2023, strengths and weaknesses in its organic growth were evaluated. A SWOT analysis was conducted, revealing strategies to improve Colombia’s image and reputation at the international level. The study concludes that TikTok is a useful tool for states with limited resources; however, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not currently using its account effectively to attract international audiences. While it generates interest, the lack of user interaction affects community building. It is recommended to develop a brand manual and collaborate with content creators, educational institutions, economic entities, and public organizations to maximize the platform’s potential for soft power.
