With the passage of time it has been possible to show that all activities carried out by human beings generate impacts on the environment, so that the constant economic, social and cultural development brings with it environmental footprints that must be mitigated, in order to achieve a sustainable development. One of the most relevant environmental damages within the human’s activities is the generation of solid waste, which must be managed to carry out the adequate disposal of the same. Most of this waste can be reused, which is why it is so important to carry out the separation of waste at the source properly. Due to all of the above, it became necessary for governments around the world to establish agreements and policies that allow the monitoring and regulation of environmental impact, from these, the regulations that govern each country for the care and protection of the environment were generated. For Colombia and specifically for the city of Bogotá, there are regulations that control the management and handling of usable solid waste, which at present is not fully compliant with them, for this reason, it is essential to improve and strengthen monitoring methods and control in order that these regulations are fully complied and carried out correctly.
