Abstract

In Colombia, the establishment of commercial forest plantations has come to be questioned due to the impacts that they could generate on ecosystems, however, the growing demand for timber products to supply the industry has generated pressure on the use of wood, making It is essential to develop strategies to guarantee this supply within the framework of sustainable development. In this research, a documentary search was carried out in order to compile the existing information that related the introduction of exotic species in crops for commercial timber purposes in Colombia and their effects on the elements of the ecosystem (water, soil, landscape, biodiversity and persons). The search was broadened in different countries of the tropics with conditions similar to those of the country; This found the identification of impacts, both positive and negative, of the incursion of these production models in similar ecosystems. Finally, an analysis was carried out on the opportunities that the development of this sector can bring to the country in current scenarios of climate change
