Desarrollo de Colonias de Bombus atratus (Hymenoptera: Apidae) en Cautiverio Durante la Etapa Subsocial

Abstract

Se criaron nueve colonias de Bombus atratus Franklin a partir de 14 reinas capturadas en campo en dos localidades del departamento de Cundinamarca, Colombia en Julio de 2007. Todas las reinas se mantuvieron en un cuarto climatizado a 28ºC-30ºC y 60%-90% de H.R y se alimentaron ad libitum con una solución azucarada (1:1v/v) y polen fresco colectado de colonias de abejas de la miel. A cada reina se le hizo seguimiento diario desde el inicio de posturas hasta la emergencia del total de obreras con el fin de examinar la posible relación de algunos parámetros biológicos de las reinas de Bombus atratus durante la etapa subsocial con la producción final de obreras de colonias mantenidas en cautiverio. Se encontró que la producción de obreras está influenciada por parámetros como el número y peso de las obreras que emergen de la primera celda construida por la reina. Colonias exitosas en producción de obreras se pueden detectar en la fase sub-social caracterizándose por producir al menos dos obreras con un peso promedio mayor o igual a 0.10 g como resultado del desarrollo de la primera celda de huevo.
