Abstract

Emerging contaminants (CE) have been studied for their high incidence in different environments, including aquatic, however, in the context of developing countries, information on their occurrence, magnitude and potential threat is scarce. The objective of this article is to make a bibliographic review of the main pollutants in water sources, based on the main generating industries and classes of substances, current national regulations and alternatives for their elimination in Advanced Oxidation Processes (PAOs). Based on the generation of efficient hydroxyl radicals to treat recalcitrant compounds, which can hardly be eliminated by conventional treatments.
