El servicio militar en Colombia es obligatorio y todo ciudadano colombiano mayor de 18 años está en el deber de definir su situación militar, por tal motivo los hombres mayores de edad se presentan en los diferentes distritos de reclutamiento del Ejército Nacional, Armada Nacional, Policía Nacional, Fuerza Aérea; el servicio militar se encuentra enmarcado en 12 meses para el personal que certifique que es bachiller o tiene alguna carrera técnica, tecnológica o pregrado, y para el personal que no haya terminado el bachillerato debe prestar 18 meses. Durante la permanencia en la Amada Nacional reciben una formación militar básica (Área de preparación psicológica, física, técnica, táctica, y administrativa), formación laboral productiva desarrollada con el SENA. Para el desarrollo de esta instrucciones se hace necesario contar con personal idóneo, espacios de instrucción adecuados y apropiados, que motiven al personal de instructores y alumnos a recibir las capacitaciones de una manera más agradable, de la misma manera esto nos permitirá mantener estándares de excelencia en la capacitación y entrenamiento, ya que dependiendo del nivel de entrenamiento así mismo dependerá el nivel de los resultados operacionales que obténgan las unidades en el teatro de operaciones.
