Abstract

This article reviews the cleaning and recovery techniques used in coral reefs and mangroves in case an oil spill takes place. Taking into account the conditions and environmental factors, as well as the characteristics of the product, which can affect the results of the technique implementation. Based on a review of studies, articles and guides on the management of emergencies by oil spills and the recovery of ecosystems mentioned before, the strategies are evaluated to conclude that the combined use of two or more techniques is the best option to contribute to the decontamination and recovery of the ecosystem affected by the spill. The above, taking into account different techniques according to the affected ecosystem and the hydrocarbon involved in the pollution event.
