The present paper analyzes the role of the Universidad Militar Nueva Granada (UMNG) in the construction of the environmental sustainability of Bogotá and the Sabana Centro region; at the beginning, there is a conceptual framework (antecedents, evolution and current situation of the environmental crisis and the impact on society). Subsequently, there are the contributions made by some universities in the country to the environmental sustainability of their regions, including the role of the UMNG in their area of jurisdiction. Finally, a critical analysis is presented regarding the work that has been carried out by universities and the function of the UMNG must fulfill in the context of sustainable development.

En el presente ensayo se analiza el rol de la Universidad Militar Nueva Granada (UMNG) en la construcción de la sostenibilidad ambiental de Bogotá y la región de sabana centro, para lo cual inicialmente se define un marco conceptual (antecedentes, evolución y la situación actual de la crisis ambiental y el impacto en la sociedad). Posteriormente, se exponen los aportes que han hecho algunas universidades del país a la sostenibilidad ambiental de sus regiones, incluido el papel que ha jugado la UMNG en su área de jurisdicción. Finalmente se presenta un análisis crítico frente a la labor que ha cumplido y que debe cumplir la UMNG en el marco del desarrollo sostenible.
