Abstract

It is very common to find soils of subgrade with low shear strength, resulting in pavement designs with large thicknesses, which increase costs and construction times. Therefore, it was necessary initiate studies of the effects of geocells in pavements, whose properties allows a reduction in the thickness of pavement structures, both in their granular materials and asphalt layers. These benefits reduce the amount of excavation, granular material placement and compaction, resulting in benefits for both economy and construction times. This document analyzed the benefits to be gained in a road project that uses geocells as part of the granular structure of the pavement, by the specific analyze of a project where the corresponding design was made for both a conventional pavement and a pavement with geocells, calculating the new module of the granular layers.
