Abstract

Introducción: El cáncer colorrectal (CCR) asociado a la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal (CCR-EII) es un claro ejemplo de cáncer asociado a un proceso inflamatorio crónico. Es fundamental el diagnóstico precoz del mismo para poder conseguir su curación. Las metaloproteasas de la matriz extracelular (MMPs) son moléculas que se han visto implicadas tanto en el desarrollo de los procesos inflamatorios crónicos como en el desarrollo del cáncer en general. Se han publicado estudios que relacionan a la metaloproteasa-7 (MMP-7) y a la metaloproteasa-14 (MMP-14), así como al inhibidor tisular-1 de las metaloproteasas (TIMP-1), con el desarrollo y progresión del cáncer colorrectal esporádico (CCR-S). Sin embargo, pocos estudios analizan su participación en el CCR-EII. El programa de cribado para la detección precoz del CCR-EII o la displasia tisular es más complejo que el del CCR-S. Si se demostrara la participación de MMP-7, MMP-14 o TIMP-1 en el desarrollo del CCR-EII, podrían ser utilizados como biomarcadores cuya determinación mejorase la eficiencia del programa de cribado. Objetivo: El objetivo de esta tesis fue evaluar la expresión de MMP-7, MMP-14 y TIMP-1 en diferentes tipos celulares (células tumorales, epiteliales, células mononucleares inflamatorias (CMI) y fibroblastos) en el CCR-EII comparada con la del CCR-S y determinar la relación de la expresión de estos factores con el riesgo de desarrollo de CCR-EII.
