Abstract

En 1900 David Hilbert presentó su famosa lista de problemas para el siglo XX. El número 5 de esa lista planteaba la cuestión de bajo que condiciones un grupo topológico localmente euclídeo admite una estructura de grupo de Lie. Este problema estimuló una gran línea de trabajo a lo largo de todo el siglo, hasta llegar a la respuesta de Gleason, Iwasawa, Montgomery, Yamabe y Zippin. El objetivo de este trabajo es hacer una introducción a la teoría de grupos topológicos, un área matemática en la que la teoría de grupos y la Topología se mezclan.
