Abstract

En este sector de la Cordillera Cantábrica existen numerosas formas de modelado glaciar, como son los circos, aristas, cubetas glaciares, valles en artesa, etc., así como frecuentes depósitos de till y fluvioglaciares, que han permitido reconstruir un conjunto de eventos glaciare semejantes a los descritos en otras áreas de la Cordillera Cantábrica y los Pirineos. una fase de máxima extensión de los glaciares, durante la cual el nivel de las nieves perpetuas se situó en torno a los 1500 m y los frentes glaciares decendieron hasta los 800 m en los valles principales, fue seguida de una regresión en la que se pueden distinguir dos etapas de estabilización. La erosión de los valles y posterior retirada de los glaciares, facilitó la desestablización de las vertientes, generándose numerosos y grandes movimientos en masa tardiglaciares. Un depósito de till alterado y fuera de contexto geomorfológico sugiere la existencia de una etapa glaciar más antigua, constituyéndose en una de las escasas evidencias de un ciclo glaciar previo al máximo ampliamente reconocido en la Cordillera Cantábrica y los Pirineos.
