Actitudes hipocondríacas, síntomas somáticos y afecto negativo

Abstract

El presente trabajo examina la relación entre el afecto negativo, los síntomas somáticos y las actitudes hipocondríacas. Treinta y tres sujetos (18 mujeres con una edad media de 30,27 años y 15 hombres con una media de 27,73 años) seleccionados al azar, entre los clientes de un centro de reconocimiento de conductores, aceptaron voluntariamente cumplimentar los siguientes cuestionarios: Whiteley Index (WI), Escala de Actitudes ante la Enfermedad (EAE), Cuestionario de Molestias Corporales (CMC), STAI-E-R y Inventario de Depresión de Beck (BDI). Se utilizó el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson para estimar las correlaciones entre las distintas variables del estudio y se efectuó un análisis de Regresión Múltiple para estimar la capacidad predictiva de los valores en el CMC, STAI-R y BDI con respecto a las dos medidas de actitudes hipocondríacas (WI, EAE). Los resultados indican que la afectividad negativa se asocia a un mayor nivel de molestias corporales autoinformadas, a la propensión de exagerar las alteraciones fisiológicas y a una tendencia a experimentar estados emocionales negativos. Sin embargo, la ausencia de relación entre estados emocionales negativos y molestias somáticas y/o actitudes hipocondríacas parece indicar que la emocionalidad negativa per se no se asocia a preocupación somática. Por otra parte, en la predicción de la preocupación somática, la afectividad negativa tiene importancia cuando se utiliza una medida restringida de hipocondría (WI), mientras que cuando se utiliza la EAE las molestias corporales tienen mayor peso. A pesar de las estrechas relaciones encontradas, no queda claro en qué medida y cómo los estados emocionales median en el establecimiento de la hipocondría.
